Posted by news desk in Local News, 12th January 2010, 5:19pm

Camden Council is encouraging local residents to consider becoming a councillor, and to come along to the prospective candidates event at The Camden Centre on Tuesday 2 February 2010 at 6.30pm. The next local government elections in Camden are taking place on 6 May 2010 and will elect 54 councillors for a four year term.

There are 32 London boroughs within Greater London, with a total of 1,861 councillors representing 7.5 million residents.

Most councillors are members of a political party and are nominated to stand for election through the party system however, it is also possible to stand as a candidate in your own right without being associated with any political party or grouping.

The prospective candidates event is open to anyone who is considering standing as a candidate but places are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Readers should contact Camden Council if they are interested in attending.
